We are plagued by invasive alien species. In great numbers they migrate to our country and eventually overgrow the native culture. Their presence is unwanted. But we ourselves are responsible for it.

By way of international trade, people have been introducing plants into our ecosystem that do not belong here. Several of these alien species aggressively affect the native flora and fauna. These are branded “invasive” and are eradicated. Being both the cause of and the solution to a problem seems somewhat contradictory.

‘Invasive Fabric’ consists two tapestries that abstractly depict this problem and the system we have devised to contain it. The colors of the tapestries are based on the color of the ink the different plants gave me. Thereby I’m giving them purpose and perhaps making them a little less unwanted.
